Didier Ruef, born in 1961, is a Swiss citizen based in Lugano, Switzerland. He works as a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer. Ruef has shot for the last thirty years hundred of reportages and assignments on all five continents, with a preference for Africa. He uses either color or B&W depending on the stories, the clients or his personal projects. Ruef's photographs have been published in major international magazines and newspapers, such as Time, The Observer Magazine, Daily Telegraph, Le Monde, El Pais Semanal, Geo, Marie Claire, D La Republica, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Das Magazin, Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières, the Global Fund and the Syngenta Foundation. Ruef has made several books : Bauern am Berg - Offizin Verlag, Paysans de nos montagnes - Editions Monographic, Vita di montagna - Edizioni Casagrande, Afrique Noire - Infolio Editions, Enfants Prisonniers – DiDé, Bestiarium - QTI. Since 1991, Ruef has also been involved in a worldwide project on Man and Waste and has finally published in 2011 the book Recycle, Labor et Fides (French – English) and Edizioni Casagrande (Italian – German).
