Isabella De Maddalena was born in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, in 1978. In 2002 she graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Art in Milan, with a focus in Painting. From 2001 to 2006, she worked in various photographic studios in Milan and London. In 2007 she worked as an assistant for the photographer Stefano De Luigi. In 2008 she started a project about motherhood throughout the world with a story about maternity and foreign women in Italy, which was published in the magazine Io Donna. In 2010 Isabella De Maddalena completed her Masters in Visual Storytelling at the Danish School of Photojournalism in Aarhus, Denmark. In the same year she started to work as a backstage photographer for the Milan Fashion Week. In 2011 she completed a story on teenage pregnancy in the UK. Her pictures have been published in various magazines, among them: Women's Wear Daily, Io Donna, ‘IL’- Intelligence in Lifestyle, Rolling Stone and Allure Russia.
