THERE WAS A BARBER

The House’s Barber Shop in Harlem has never been a simple barbershop, since its opening fifty years ago. Between its four walls ended up musicians, writers and common people (including Charlie Parker and Malcom X). Jeffrey Henson Scales, who has been living in Harlem from 1986, has photographed, for five years, this place where culture and daily life meet, where opinions and ideas about style and masculinity concepts circulate.
